FSSAI Urges Abandonment of Newspaper Food Wrapping for Health and Safety – Flaunt Post

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) released an advise in which it sternly warned against the long-standing custom of using newspapers to wrap, serve, or preserve food items. This precautionary action comes in response to mounting worries about the potential health risks linked to this seemingly harmless tradition.
Food safety is of the utmost importance, and FSSAI CEO G Kamala Vardhana Rao has expressed grave concerns over the widespread usage of newspapers for food-related reasons. The ink used in newspapers is one of the main issues brought up by the FSSAI. This ink contains a number of bioactive substances that, when consumed, are known to be harmful to health. There may be health issues if the ink gets into the food. Additionally, dangerous substances like lead and heavy metals that are present in printing inks may slowly seep into food, causing serious health risks over time.
But it doesn’t stop there. Newspapers, exposed to various environmental conditions during distribution, can become breeding grounds for bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. These contaminants can transfer to the food, potentially causing foodborne illnesses, even if the food has been prepared with meticulous hygiene.
FSSAI passed the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations in 2018 to solve these serious problems. These rules strictly prohibit the storage and wrapping of food in newspapers or other comparable materials. The mandate also prohibits using newspapers to serve, wrap, or cover food, or even to soak up extra oil from fried foods.
Rao has urged all food vendors to stop using newspapers for food packaging and instead focus on adopting responsible packaging practises that put the health and wellbeing of consumers first. The FSSAI reiterates its commitment to maintaining the safety of India’s food supply with its clear stance on this matter. In addition to newspapers, the advisory also underscores the potential risks associated with paper and cardboard boxes made from recycled paper. Such materials may carry harmful chemicals like phthalates, known to cause digestive problems and severe toxicity.
The Commissioners of Food Safety in every State and Union Territory will launch organised initiatives to increase awareness among all interested parties as part of this programme. The message is clear: it’s time to abandon the long-standing custom of using newspapers to package food.
The custom of wrapping food in newspapers, which was traditionally widespread throughout India, is currently under investigation for the potential health risks it may carry. It’s essential that both food sellers and consumers follow this warning given that the FSSAI’s guideline highlights the potential health risks connected with this practise. We can safeguard the safety and health of consumers across the country by using food-grade containers and safe, authorised food packaging materials. The moment has arrived to put food safety first and adopt better packaging techniques.

Sarah Burton’s Givenchy Debut: A New Era Through the Female Gaze

Sarah Burton has officially redefined Givenchy. In her Fall 2025 debut at Paris Fashion Week, the former Alexander McQueen creative director brought a feminine perspective to the legendary house, embracing strength, vulnerability, and emotional intelligence. This moment felt significant—not only because of Burton’s storied past but also because so few women currently helm major luxury brands.
A Tribute to Givenchy’s Heritage
Burton’s inspiration came from Hubert de Givenchy’s 1952 debut collection, known for its clean, graphic silhouettes. A recent discovery of the maison’s archival calico patterns further fueled her vision, leading to designs that balanced wearable ease with dramatic, couture-like elements.
The show opened with a black fishnet catsuit, a bold reset before transitioning into the essence of Burton’s Givenchy—a collection that honored the past while embracing modern femininity.
Key Looks & Defining Elements
Oversized Suits with Cinched Waists → A powerful balance of structure and fluidity.
Sleeveless Dresses with Ruffled Hemlines → Adding movement and drama to everyday elegance.
Cocoon-Like Coats & Jackets → Featuring rounded, puffed-up shoulders, nodding to Givenchy’s classic volume play.
Body-Diverse Runway Casting → One of the few Paris shows this season to feature a range of body types, reinforcing Burton’s commitment to dressing real women.
A New Vision for Modern Women
Burton’s Givenchy is about more than just clothes—it’s about how women want to feel: powerful, sexy, vulnerable, and strong, all at once. Her debut collection wasn’t just a runway success—it was a statement on the future of fashion, where femininity is both celebrated and redefined.
