Reason behind NCERT has changed it’s syllabus – Flaunt Post

The National Council of Educational Research and Training( NCERT) is a government- established organisation advising central and state governments on academy education academic matters.
NCERT handbooks have been a source of contestation for allegedly promoting the ruling party’s political testament since its establishment in 1961.

NCERT lately carried out a’ syllabus rationalisation’ exercise from December 2021 to June 2022 to reduce the burden on scholars after the Covid- 19 epidemic
A’ rationalised’ NCERT syllabus was released for 2022- 23 where 30 of the syllabus was deleted for Classes 6 to 12. Though utmost of the changes were blazoned in April 2022, not all were declared, leading to a fresh row in 2023 over undisclosed elisions related to Mahatma Gandhi and the Gujarat screams.

Since 2014, there have been three NCERT variations– in 2017, in 2019, and in 2021 It’s worth mentioning that not just revamping the handbooks, the NCERT has also revised the National Curriculum Framework after 14 times on the lines of the National Education Policy( NEP) 2020. The former four occasions when the NCF was revised were in 1975, 1988, 2000 and 2005.

These changes have been made in line with the streamlined syllabus and are being enforced in seminaries following the NCERT syllabus from the 2023- 2024 academic session. It’s essential to revise and align the current NCERT syllabus with the new education policy to insure that it meets the streamlined objects, precedences, and guidelines.

Here are the reasons that are the major factors behind NCERT changing it’s syllabus:

Outdated content- Some corridor of the syllabus may contain outdated or inapplicable information, which may not be applicable or useful for scholars in the contemporary environment. For illustration, issues like Swachh Bharat, Digital India, GST, ‘ Beti Bachao Beti Padhao ’, demonetisation etc. are missing in the current syllabus.

Bias and contestation- The NCERT syllabus has faced review for implicit impulses and difficulties in its content. This could include the depiction of literal events, political issues, or artistic aspects that may be seen as promoting a particular standpoint or testament.

Lack of inclusivity- The syllabus may not adequately represent the different artistic, verbal, and social backgrounds of India, which can lead to a lack of understanding and appreciation of the country’s rich heritage and diversity. For illustration, further space was given to Mughal Empire.
Heavy workload to scholars The NCERT syllabus is frequently blamed for being too vast and demanding, leading to a high workload for scholars, which can have negative impacts on their internal and physical well- being.
