India Contemplates Renaming to ‘Bharat’: G20 Summit Invitation Sparks Heated National Debate

Published

on

As India gears up to host the upcoming G20 Summit, the nation finds itself embroiled in a spirited debate over the proposed renaming of the country from India to Bharat. When official invitations for the G20 Summit referred to the “President of Bharat” rather than the traditional “President of India,” it unintentionally sparked this unexpected controversy.  Intense debates have been raised about the consequences of this name change in the political sphere and across the country.

This change in name has given the political environment new energy as a special parliamentary session is approaching. A G20 booklet titled “Bharat, The Mother Of Democracy” created for foreign delegations prominently promoted the possibility of using “Bharat.” ‘Bharat’ is claimed to be the official name of the nation in this booklet, which is backed up by historical disputes that date back to 1946–1948 and is written in the Indian Constitution. To emphasize this shift, identity cards for Indian officials at the G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10 will bear the inscription ‘Bharat – Official.’

Although the renaming procedure has not been officially confirmed, there are signs that the administration may do so during the upcoming five-day special parliamentary session, which will begin on September 18. The special session’s lack of a publicly available agenda has stoked rumours and increased suspense.

Unsurprisingly, this renaming endeavor has not gone unnoticed by the political Opposition. Members of the INDIA bloc, who speak for the opposition, have charged the Modi government with distorting history and attempting to polarise the country. Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP, questioned whether the government would support renaming the nation “BJP” if the opposition coalition wanted to identify as “Bharat.”

BJP leaders, on the other hand, welcomed the use of “Bharat” and denounced the opposition as anti-national and hostile to constitutional principles. They highlight that the term “Bharat” is explicitly mentioned in Article 1 of the Constitution, which states: “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.”  Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praised this decision as an important step in eradicating the colonial attitude and expressed pride in the word “Bharat.” The President’s support of “Bharat” emphasises its significance even more.

This contentious discussion started as a result of recent statements made by the head of the BJP’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Mohan Bhagwat, the head of the RSS, spoke in favour of switching from the term “India” to “Bharat.” As the nation stands divided over the proposed renaming, the future course of this controversy remains uncertain. It is unclear whether the government will formally propose changing India’s name to Bharat and how the international community will react to such a change. It is anticipated that the G20 Summit, which India will host, will provide more insight into this issue and the changing nature of the national identity.

Sarah Burton’s Givenchy Debut: A New Era Through the Female Gaze

Published

on

Sarah Burton has officially redefined Givenchy. In her Fall 2025 debut at Paris Fashion Week, the former Alexander McQueen creative director brought a feminine perspective to the legendary house, embracing strength, vulnerability, and emotional intelligence. This moment felt significant—not only because of Burton’s storied past but also because so few women currently helm major luxury brands.

A Tribute to Givenchy’s Heritage

Burton’s inspiration came from Hubert de Givenchy’s 1952 debut collection, known for its clean, graphic silhouettes. A recent discovery of the maison’s archival calico patterns further fueled her vision, leading to designs that balanced wearable ease with dramatic, couture-like elements.

The show opened with a black fishnet catsuit, a bold reset before transitioning into the essence of Burton’s Givenchy—a collection that honored the past while embracing modern femininity.

Key Looks & Defining Elements

Oversized Suits with Cinched Waists → A powerful balance of structure and fluidity.

Sleeveless Dresses with Ruffled Hemlines → Adding movement and drama to everyday elegance.

Cocoon-Like Coats & Jackets → Featuring rounded, puffed-up shoulders, nodding to Givenchy’s classic volume play.

Body-Diverse Runway Casting → One of the few Paris shows this season to feature a range of body types, reinforcing Burton’s commitment to dressing real women.

A New Vision for Modern Women

Burton’s Givenchy is about more than just clothes—it’s about how women want to feel: powerful, sexy, vulnerable, and strong, all at once. Her debut collection wasn’t just a runway success—it was a statement on the future of fashion, where femininity is both celebrated and redefined.
