Mid-Air Emergency: Passenger Attempts to Open Exit Door on IndiGo Flight – Flaunt Post

Published

on

In an unexpected occurrence that shocked the aviation community, a passenger on board an IndiGo flight made a perilous attempt to open the aircraft’s emergency exit door while it was still mid-air. The incident, which occurred on IndiGo flight 6E-457, left 180 passengers from Guwahati to Agartala in a state of panic and disbelief. The passenger in question, identified as 41-year-old Biswajit Debnath, hailing from Jirania in eastern Agartala, was detained by authorities upon landing. The dramatic turn of events unfolded on Thursday (21/09/23)  afternoon, turning an otherwise routine flight into a harrowing experience for everyone on board.

A senior police officer in Agartala claims that Debnath set out on a journey from Hyderabad to Agartala via Guwahati. He appeared to be an ordinary passenger when he was placed in seat 1D on IndiGo flight 6E-457. But as the plane started to descend and the landing gear was being assembled, chaos broke out. Stress waves resonated throughout the cabin when Debnath abruptly made a hasty dash for the front exit door of the aircraft. Debnath continued his efforts to unlock the emergency door, immediately causing panic and uncertainty among the passengers and staff.

Cabin crew members, known for their training to handle such situations, sprang into action in an attempt to stop Debnath. Amid the ensuing scuffle, an air hostess took a brave stand, supported by fellow passengers, in restraining Debnath and preventing him from carrying out his dangerous actions. Debnath was confronted by enraged and alarmed passengers as the situation grew tense, injuring not only him but also the cabin crew. Chandrima Chakraborty, the crew team leader, and her coworker Manish Jindal were two of the people hurt while trying to keep the aircraft in order.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) troops and IndiGo workers swiftly intervened to solve the worrying situation when the aircraft finally touched down at Agartala Airport. Debnath was in severe condition, but they were able to remove him from the aircraft and deliver him to the airport police station. According to later medical tests, Debnath may have been under the effect of narcotic drugs, which provided some insight into the mystery surrounding his behaviour. Thankfully, his condition was determined to be stable and not life-threatening by medics, allowing investigators to move forward with their investigation.

The potentially disastrous occurrence serves as a harsh reminder of the value of following aviation safety regulations and the alertness of fellow passengers and crew members. In response to the event, IndiGo Airlines reaffirmed its dedication to standard operating practises. Debnath was immediately identified as a rowdy passenger and turned over to local law enforcement upon arriving. The airline also made an effort to reassure passengers that the safety of the aircraft was never compromised, despite the distressing episode. Recognising the shock and distress that such an event might cause, they apologised for any difficulties that other travellers may have encountered.
